ARTIST STATEMENT Charles E. Grubbs Essence of Nature Photographer I have been around for over fifty years on this wonderful creation of our Lord, that we call earth. I began photographing nature about five years ago. What started me in photography? My love for nature and trying to capture the essence of the beauty and wonder of nature. I realized that we take so many things for granted. We rush through our lives without realizing the beauty that we are surrounded by. After being involved in several tragedies, I realized that we should not take “time” for granted.
The smile of a grandchild is the most wonderful example of Love there is. The Essence of Nature is here and there, but you have to slow down to see and to appreciate it. It really is so very important to capture the Essence of Nature for a child, for them to see and to understand how special nature is and how dear and beautiful that moment is…
Like the raw power of lighting, or the way a drop of water lingers on the swan’s beak after she dips her head into the cool blue water. The shimmers of gold on the still water of a mountain lake as the sun slips below the horizon, the velvet on the antlers of a whitetail buck, twin fawns laying in a dew covered meadow at sunrise, the deep red velvet of a rose in the hands of my three year old granddaughter as she smells the roses essence for the first time. The weathered wood of a pine bough, the creases in the old gentlemen’s face as he watches his grandchildren playing and the look in his eyes of love and joy. The way the sun’s glow radiates the sky as it goes to sleep at night, the autumn kaleidoscope of colors as the skyward spirals of gold, red, and yellow leaves fall to Mother earth, the mist from the waterfall of the mountain stream on its journey.
My mission is to capture wonderful moments in Nature’s time through my heart and my 35mm camera, for our children and our grandchildren… The equipment I use? I am dedicated to "Old School" philosophies. I love Shooting slide film (Velvia) my camera is a Nikon F-100 and I use Nikor lenses. However I have recently purchased a Nikon D-200 and am exploring a new adventure... Photographs are printed on high quality Kodak Royal Archival paper. Thank you, and God Bless. |
